Official opening of the Center for Sustainable Development and Environmental Law
We are thrilled to announce the opening of the Center for Sustainable Development and Environmental Law, created with the support of UniCities. The center is located at 77 Grigory Skovorioda St., Kharkiv, Ukraine.
This center will serve as a platform for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing to achieve sustainable development in our region.
The Center for Sustainable Development and Environmental Law – “SusDEV Law” – is an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental institution, which aims to promote the University as a higher legal education institution of international level, participating in modern political processes, contributing to the formation and improvement of national and international law in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.
The vision of the Center is to create an interdisciplinary network of scientists, practitioners, and students interested in creating innovative ways and means of ensuring sustainable development and green transformations.
The Center’s mission is to conduct innovative research, academic, training and publishing activities to address theoretical and practical issues related to ensuring sustainable, equitable and resilient development in all spheres of public life.
Recognising the crucial role that law plays in shaping the trajectory of sustainable development and environmental protection,
Centre’s research spans a wide range of intersecting thematic areas, including:
– climate change
– energy transition and clean energy
– sustainable use of natural resources
– green economy
– biodiversity conservation
– environmental and climate justice.
By engaging in rigorous legal analysis and evidence-based policymaking, we aim to bridge the gap between theory and practice, translating our findings into actionable recommendations for governments, businesses, and civil society organisations.
An important part of the Center’s work is the green reconstruction and sustainable recovery of Ukraine. In close cooperation with Ukrainian stakeholders, international partners and experts, the Center aims to promote the principle of “Building Back Better and Greener” – a low-carbon, resource-efficient and socially inclusive model of post-war recovery and development.
Center in its activities:
– conducts academic research and promotes the development and implementation of modern research and educational programs on the management, protection and conservation of natural resources, sustainable development and green transition in the national and international aspects and in the context of European integration;
– prepares proposals for improving legislation and implementing state policy in the field of management, protection and conservation of natural resources;
– organizes scientific conferences, roundtables, seminars, annual schools, certificate programs, open lectures and other scientific, educational and public meetings (including online) with the involvement of University scientists, representatives of public authorities and the public, invited researchers and experts, and international partners;
– participates in institutional partnerships with international universities, research centers;
– implements information projects, including joint projects with the media, involving national and international experts, teachers and students of the University;
– implements publishing projects, including joint projects with scientists and practical experts from other countries, involving teachers and students of the University;
– organizes and conducts professional development activities for the faculty of Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, as well as for research and teaching staff of higher education institutions of Ukraine;
interacts with state authorities and local governments, business structures, non-governmental and international organizations, other academic and expert centers in accordance with the Center’s profile.
