On May 28, 2024, representatives of the Center for Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection Law held the first meeting of the scientific group on environmental law under the leadership of PhD in Law, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Environmental Law Yevhen Suetnov.
Students, post-graduate students, and professors of the Department of Environmental Law at Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University joined the scientific group.
The opening speech was delivered by Yevhen Suetnov, who congratulated all those present on the start of the scientific club and informed about the planned frequency of its meetings.
After that, Yulia Kozmina, a 3rd year student of the Prosecutor’s Office, was elected as the head of the scientific club by open vote.
The first session discussed topical issues of legislative support for “Legal protection of the environment in the context of armed conflict” and “Legal regulation of environmental restoration in Ukraine”.
The students proposed the following research topics:
1. “Restoration of the ecosystem of Osokorove Lake – part of the Khortytskyy floodplains – after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP: development of a strategy and action plan” was presented by Yulia Kozmina, a 3rd year student of the Prosecutor’s Office.
2. “Crimes against animals during the war” was presented by Polina Dvornikova, 3rd year student of the Faculty of International and European Law
3. “Legal regulation of environmental restoration in Ukraine” was presented by Yulia Gordienko, 3rd year student of the Faculty of International and European Law.
4. “Legal regulation of the protection of citizens’ rights to a safe environment for life and health under martial law”, presented by Zlata Rosomakha, 3rd year student of the Faculty of Prosecution.
5. “Legal support of radiation safety in the conditions of armed conflicts”, presented by Valeriia Fedorova, 3rd year student of the Faculty of Advocacy.
6. “The crime of ecocide in the context of armed conflict” was presented by Roman Alyoshin, 3rd year student of the Faculty of Advocacy.
7. “Ecocide as a special type of international crime” was presented by Anna Kostiuk, 3rd year student of the Faculty of Advocacy.
All the speeches were accompanied by presentations that revealed and detailed the current issues and ways to solve them.
